I wanted to share some books that I've read while researching  Unsolved New England: 20 Cases that Rocked the Region ... (Shameless self-promotion 😊 - an  Amazon affiliate link ), and this seemed like a good place to start. The Garder Heist: The Story of the World's Largest Unsolved Art Theft  is the first book I read about the Gardner Heist, and it introduced me to the intriguing Harold Smith!

Angel Torres - Missing Since May 21, 1999

Image
Angel "Tony" Torres was a student at Framingham State University majoring in business and psychology. His family lived in Denmark, Maine and he was a graduate of Fryburg Academy. Torres was back in Maine with a friend, Jason Carney, to allegedly sell drugs in the Saco and Biddeford areas. Carney claims to have last seen Torres at 2:00 A.M. on May 21 near the Whistle Stop convenience store where Torres hitched a ride in a red truck to either Denmark, Maine or North Conway, New Hampshire. Angel Torres has not been seen since. His family reported him missing on May 24, after he failed to show up for work.  On the night of his disappearance, Torres had been in the company of Steven and Daniel Sanborn. Sunday Photo ~ Mathew Margolies

The Byram River in Greenwich, CT On August 31, 1984 Matthew Margolies was enjoying his last day of summer vacation by spending most of it fishing on the Byram River. Tragically sometime that afternoon an unknown person assaulted and murdered Matthew and left his body not far from the river. I visited the area on a hot and humid August day. I arrived early in the morning and the air was so heavy and hazy, and as you can see from the picture the pollen was thick. The town was quiet on that early Sunday morning, and I barely saw another person. I kept wondering if Matthew would have been out fishing if he hadn't run into a monster that day back in 1984. A reward has been offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who murdered Matthew Margolies. If you have any information about this case please contact the Greenwich Police department at (203)622-8000 I will be releasing color versions of photos I took while researching my book, and give a
